The aim of Juicy Geography is to share some free ideas and resources for teachers. THere is a vast array of resources available here on subjects such as:

and many, many more. This site extends beyond GIS into all facets of geography and is written by a teacher for teachers. The site has a blog which you can subscribe to through an RSS feed to keep you up to date with all the latest material or suggestions.

Ordnance Survey - Mapzone

Mapzone is the Ordnance Surveys resource for teachers. It is a totally free, bright and lively web site produced by Ordnance Survey that aims to teach children, between 7 and 16 years, mapping skills in a fun way. This free resource offers interactive play with stimulating questions and answers together with animations and games to make the structured learning process a joy to come back to.

The site is broken down into the following sections:

Geograph
An online photo reference that aims to store a photograph of every square kilometre of the country.

GIS Zone
An overview to GIS. What is it and what does it allow you to do. With good examples of how gis might be used in real day-to-day life such as crime analysis by the police

Did you know?
A geographic quiz

Games
Geography based games to help students engage with maps and map related terms.

Teaching Resources
Ideas and links to sites with further map related resources for teachers.

In addition there is a Homework Help section
Homework help is a fully interactive site promoting a fun learning approach to map-reading skills covered by Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum Geography programme in England and Wales (years 7–9) and the Framework for Environmental Studies People and Place strand in Scotland (years P7–S2). Homework Help is broken down into the following sections:

Best viewed at a screen setting of 800 by 600 pixels and by downloading two small free software packages, Macromedia Flash Player and Macromedia Shockwave Player from the Macromedia site.

Oxfam - Mapping Our World

Oxfam hosts this interactive website works with maps and globes to transform pupils’ understanding of the world.

Winner of a Geographical Association Gold award and a BAFTA award for primary learning, Mapping Our World allows pupils to flatten a globe, turn a map into a globe, and merge different map projections.

The nine structured activities come with teachers’ notes and are designed for whole class learning on an interactive whiteboard or PC. The website supports the Geography curriculum and is also ideal for bringing a global approach to Citizenship, PSE and ICT.

The site requires flash 10 to be installed.

Free Resources for Teachers

Royal Geographical Society for Schools

Not so focused on GIS as such, but a great portal that provides information and links to some great resources. There is also information about how the Society aims to support the teaching of Geography and how geography teachers can continue their professional development as a geographer.
