All the software a geoscientist needs. For free!
A great blog article on how to do earth science research without paying for software licences. John Stevenson of The University of Edinburgh explains why he chose to look for free and open source software and then helpfully provides a list of software that he uses. This lists the software he has replaced as well which puts it into context. I wonder how much money this saves?
Anyway, this article is very useful and informative if you are thinking about looking at free and open source software. You should certainly read it.
