Begraphics lite
BeGraphic transforms any shape/image/drawing/diagram into a new type of Excel's graph, fully dynamic inside Excel or PowerPoint.
BeGraphic is so easy to handle that you can draw and animate any advanced chart in five seconds (Based on to Excel cell contents). In fact, BeGraphic's settings are applied inside Excel and are identical to that of excel so if you can make a chart in excel, you should be fine using BeGraphic.
Added to Microsoft Office (Excel & PowerPoint, from 2000 to 2010 versions) as an add-in menu, BeGraphic is used in a familiar environment applying its advanced data visualization to average charts.

JGrass 2.0 (Java Geographic Information System )
JGrass 2.0, released in March 2006, is free software under GNU/GPL. It is a Java based GIS built on top of the open source GIS GRASS. JGRASS aims to bring GRASS to production environments as opposed to the research environment. The improved user interface and scripting facility will allow an application oriented user environment focused on the task to be performed.

MAPresso
MAPresso is a free Java applet for unclassed choropleth maps and cartograms. Avoiding the problem of fixing (optimal or suitable) class limits, this approach uses a continuous-tone scheme. You can also produce bivariate or trivariate choropleth maps. Data values can be visualized as continuous area or circle cartograms. Reads PSC, shapefiles and circle data.

OGR Simple Features Library
The OGR Simple Features Library is a C++ open source library (and commandline tools) providing read (and sometimes write) access to a variety of vector file formats including ESRI Shapefiles, S-57, SDTS, PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, and Mapinfo mid/mif and TAB formats. OGR also supports the NTF file format.

PostGIS
PostGIS adds support for geographic objects to the PostgreSQL object-relational database. In effect, PostGIS "spatially enables" the PostgreSQL server, allowing it to be used as a backend spatial database for geographic information systems (GIS), much like ESRI's SDE or Oracle's Spatial extension. Python Cartography Library
The Python Cartography Library, or PCL, is a package of modules for rendering GIS data from a variety of backends into maps. Its mission is to be the best possible Python interface to open source GIS software such as PROJ.4, GEOS, GDAL, OGR, and MapServer, and to be easy to use with Python web application frameworks as well as with matplotlib.
