Resources for Geospatial Metadata
The UK Academic Geospatial Metadata Application Profile (UK AGMAP) has been cross-mapped to other relevant standards. These include:
- Dublin Core (ISO 15836): a standard comprising 15 metadata elements specifically designed to describe digital resources.
- Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM): a standard adopted in 1995 for the international geographical information community to document geospatial data.
- ISO 19115 Geographic Information Metadata Standard: an international standard adopted in 2003 for the international geographical information community to document geospatial data; ISO 19115 supersedes FGDC.
- UK GEMINI Standard: derived from ISO 19115, a metadata standard implemented in 2004 for the geographical information community in the UK.
- Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) Standard: a metadata standard for the social sciences.
- e-Government Metadata (eGMS) Standard: a standard for UK public sector.
These mappings were done to assess compatibility, and address interoperability and harmonisation between standards to improve cross-searching capabilities. Further benefits to interoperability for the social sciences have been realised as the DDI standard's committee has incorporated geographical elements to define a dataset's study area extent.
