Go-Geo Help - Sharing Geospatial Datasets (Share-Geo)
Additional Help pages can be found on the ShareGeo site at the following location:
Introduction
ShareGeo
is a repository for the sharing and exchange of Geospatial datasets (it
is currently only for use for UK HE-FE Registered Digimap users,
however a public version will soon be avaliable on Go-Geo! too).
Share-Geo is also a search node under the Go-Geo! Network (when logged
in via the My Go-Geo! page).

Locating
ShareGeo
The
ShareGeo
GIS repository can be accessed by clicking on the "Willing to share
data?" Go! button on the Go-Geo! Home Page (on the right, at the bottom
of the Red Panel data
section).
The URL link also is: http://Share-Geodemo.edina.ac.uk/dspace/index.jsp

Using Share-Geo
Currently to access ShareGeo you must be at a UK HE-FE academic
Institution and be registered with EDINA Digimap. For a list of
University Institutions that subscribe to Digimap, and to Login and
register yourself (free) please visit: http://www.edina.ac.uk/digimap/.
You must also be registered to access Share-Geo to submit and download GIS datasets (this is free), to do this go to: http://Share-Geodemo.edina.ac.uk/dspace/register.
The ShareGeo Home Page / Welcome Page (see Image below) helps to navigate through the site. The left menu gives you all of the options on how to search for GIS datasets, to submit GIS datasets, and to Login, Register, Edit your profile and Help pages. On the body of the Home Page you are given 2 main options: a) Find Data, b)Share Data:

A) Find Data
There
are multiple ways to search the ShareGeo repository for UK HE-FE
research
derived GIS datasets (all the options are viewable on the left menu):
- Quick
Free-text search (Green search button)
- Geospatial Search (Google Maps search on a location)
- Geo-Keyword Search (Google Maps search on a location, plus Keyword
constraints) - See Image Below.
- Advanced Search (Use Boolean operators AND/OR/NOT to search on a
number of keywords)
- Communities & Collections search (Collections in Share-Geo
are
split into: UK Data, Non-UK Data & Global Datasets - browse
within these collections)
- Title Search (Search titles Alphabetically & Numerically)
- Depositors Search (Browse a list of Depositor names)
- Subjects Search (Browse through a list of Subjects and Keywords)
- Dates (Browse the entire collection chronologically via date
deposited) * NB: A useful way to start if you are not looking for a
specific GIS dataset.
- Institution Search (Browse through datasets created by your own and
other University Institutions and corporations).
B) Submit
To Submit a GIS dataset to ShareGeo, you must first zip up the dataset
individually (with all of its associated GIS file components). Only
single datasets can be submitted at a time, and only data for the UK.
Then click on the "Submit Resources" button, and follow the simple
step-by-step procedure in uploading the file, going through file
verification (checking file is workable, and is UK extent only, and
populating coordinates), and then completing simple Dublin Core
metadata schema about the dataset.
If you have an International (non-UK) dataset to submit to Share-Geo, contact edina@ed.ac.uk, and this will be uploaded on your behalf.
For more information about how to use Share-Geo view the ShareGeo-Help Button.

The
Results Pages & Downloading a GIS file from ShareGeo
On doing a search for Datasets on ShareGeo you will get a results page
of
all matching criteria (i.e. try searching for "Viewshed" in the
free-text
box and then pressing the Green search button). The results page lists
all the datasets that matched your query, you can choose how you wish
to order the results if there at multiple records returned.

If you click on a title, this takes you to the Metadata page (click on "Show full item record" to see the full metadata). If this is the dataset you are wanting to download press on the "Download" link towards the bottom of this page (again see Image below):
